Welcome to Chuck's "Horse-husband blog" . Check here occasionally for stories, trials and tribulations of men who are married to women who love horses.
I have been with my horse-loving wife for almost 10 years now and the most that anyone can say about what I have learned in that time is that I now make a wonderful post.
I have however taken up several hobbies along the way to help support her and the horses. These have included photography, truck and trailer repair, stall cleaning, horse feeding and last but not least saying awkward things at the wrong time.
I don't know how this blog will evolve over time, however I do suspect that my last hobby mentioned above will play a key part in it. So please, join me as I attempt to do justice to this new venue, and feel free to comment as you feel necessary.

Coming up on the holidays it is time to reflect upon our place in the world. As a horse husband, this means that we have to figure out an appropriate gift for our wives, and if you are smart, maybe a little something for the love of their lives, the horses. So I am here to make a couple of suggestion.
1. Blankets: These are very important, as they put them on all the horses to keep them warm after they inexplicably cut off all their hair at the beginning of November.
2. Wraps: These go around the ankle of the horse. They really prefer ones in outlandish colors and designs such as fuchsia flames, however, they have created rules which say that they can only use white ones in the show ring. Your choice.
3. Breeches: These again come in a multitude of colors and designs of which they would probably also like the ones with fuchsia flames, but can you believe it, they have outlawed these in the show ring also. Once again, your choice.
4. Barn clothes: You are treading on thin ice here. If for some reason you buy western wear and your wife is into english, it could get ugly and get blamed for not paying attention. However, if you can nail this you are golden. It is the one time that it is ok to buy her clothes that are clearly too big, ie. the barn coat, it must be large enough to go over her shirt, sweatshirt, light barn coat and a vest.
5. Things to never buy: Saddles, bridles, or anything else made out of leather other than boots. You WILL get the wrong style, size, color, or discipline. Feel free however to get a gift certificate to any place that sells these things, you will be golden.
6. Play it safe: diamonds are always good!
Merry Christmas
