Championships are here. I am not sure exactly what that means except that now they haul even further away to shows. Each year at the beginning of show season, which appears to start immediately after championships, I hear the same thing “we probably wont even go to championships next year”. Of course, she denies this at the end of the year when it is time to go and says something like “Oh, I didn’t mean THAT championships”. There are so many finals, championships, end of season shows, awards, statuses, rankings and so forth, that I cant even figure out what they are trying for. While I am not a football fan, you can always tell who won at the end of the season. Then there are trophies, ribbons, prizes, and salad tongs (?). Why cant they give out a ring? Or maybe something useful, like hay, or stall cleaning. Horse people obviously have different priorities than me. We went to the world cup a few years ago and they gave away a new truck, now that is useful. Of course the roads in Europe where the winner lives probably aren’t wide enough for an F350, so they should have just given it to me.
So, not being one to just dismiss something as important as championships without experiencing it, I went with Kim a couple years ago. A couple days after we got there, the Circus came into the same fairgrounds we were showing in. Now, I thought, this has possibilities. Maybe we can get some of those elephants over here to show these horse people how it is done. I learned a few new things during this. Number one is that horses aren’t real fond of elephants. Second, elephants are really smart, if you leave them standing someplace, they will still be there when you get back. Third, elephant trucks are way bigger than horse trailers. I think the horse people could learn something here though. Those circus trucks are very cool, they have animals and clowns and colorful people painted on the side. If they painted horse trailers like that, it would be much more fun.
What are the takeaways here? We need a world series of horses, of course the reiners would win every year because people that know nothing about horses think that is very cool. We need to get some creative painting on trucks and trailers. And, most of all, horse-husbands should not be left by themselves for as long as it takes to go to championships, because we (as much as we don’t want to admit it) miss our wives, and maybe even the critters a little bit.
